My Favourite Tool
I recently was asked to contribute a couple of pieces of writing to a magazine, which is due to come out imminently. One piece is an interview about my model kits. I'll share this once the magazine comes out. The other thing was a feature about artists and designers favourite tools -and I chose my tweezers. Here's what I wrote.
While my tweezers are not my most frequently used tool (that would be my scalpel), they are the tool which most feels like an extension of my hand. Alongside making model kits, I also make architectural models, and the key to a good model is being careful, and being able to hold and position components without getting glue and fingerprints all over it! In addition, these tweezers were given to me when I first started modelmaking, so I’ve had them for years, and I still think they’re beautifully shaped, and illustrate the accuracy that is critical to good modelmaking.
